My Favorite Christmas Songs: Part Two
Part One here.
In spite of the fact that I don’t believe there’s a very high demand for a list of my favorite Christmas songs, I decided to make one. I own over 700 (!) holiday-themed songs, so this list includes my top 50 faves. Here’s the top half….
(I don’t listen to music online - I just buy it - so all the links below will take you to a place where you can listen to and buy the songs, BUT! I also put the playlist on 8tracks for people who listen to music that way. Goodbye.)
1. John Williams - “Mom Returns and Finale” (from Home Alone) - You know that episode of Friends where they play the trivia game to win the apartment? If there was a trivia game about me, one of the questions would be “What’s Mallory’s favorite Christmas song?” and the answer would be this song from the Home Alone score, and my friend Maddie would definitely get the answer right. / 2. Otis Redding - “White Christmas” / 3. Sesame Street - “A True Blue Miracle" (from Christmas Eve on Sesame Street) - I love Christmas Eve on Sesame Street so much. The plot line about Bert and Ernie both giving away their favorite things to get gifts for each other: tears. / 4. Danny Elfman - “Ice Dance" (from Edward Scissorhands) / 5. The Ghost of Christmas Present - “It Feels Like Christmas" (from The Muppet Christmas Carol) / 6. + 7. Elvis Presley - “Santa Claus is Back in Town" and "Blue Christmas” / 8. The Who Village Choir - “Welcome Christmas" (from How the Grinch Stole Christmas) / 9. The Drifters - “White Christmas” / 10. Rosemary Clooney - “Suzy Snowflake" - When I want to annoy people, I sing this song to them. The thing is, it doesn’t annoy me it all. / 11. Burl Ives - “Holly Jolly Christmas" (from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer) / 12. Louis Armstrong - “Cool Yule" / 13. Judy Garland - “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" (from Meet Me in St. Louis) / 14. William Bell - “Everyday Will Be Like a Holiday" / 15. The Ronettes - “Sleigh Ride” / 16. Sharon Jonse and the Dap-Kings - “Ain’t No Chimneys in the Projects" / 17. The Brian Setzer Orchestra - “Nutcracker Suite” / 18. Jose Feliciano - “Feliz Navidad" - aka the song the little girl and Big Bird skate to in Christmas Eve on Sesame Street. / 19. Nat King Cole - “The Happiest Christmas Tree” / 20. Thurl Ravenscroft - “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" (from How the Grinch Stole Christmas) / 21. Vince Guaraldi - “O Tannenbaum" (from A Charlie Brown Christmas) / 22. Oscar the Grouch - “I Hate Christmas" (from Christmas Eve on Sesame Street) / 23. *NSYNC - “O Holy Night" - My voice isn’t the most beautiful thing in the world, but I still did chorus for a few semesters in high school and we sang this arrangement of "O Holy Night" for a Christmas concert & I’m pretty fond of it. / 24. The Raveonettes - “The Christmas Song" / 25. Thomas Newman - “Orchard House (Main Title)" (from Little Women) - I’ve never listened to any album more than the Little Women score and that is why I’m an amazing individual. This song isn’t actually a Christmas song, but it pretty much is.
